Biography
Lotus Ruan is a senior Researcher at the Citizen Lab, University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Her research centers on the interplay of the state and private companies in terms of Internet governance, digital rights, data privacy, and social media manipulation with an area focus on China. She has published with Foreign Policy, The Atlantic, Just Security, China Quarterly, China Information, Tech in Asia and more. Her work on digital security and information controls has been featured by international media outlets including The New York Times, Wallstreet Journal, BBC, Financial Times, The Initium, and more.
